Lisbon Dam Removal
EnviroScience, Inc., teaming with RiverReach Construction, was awarded the Lisbon Dam Removal and Restoration Project, located in Columbiana County, Ohio. The scope of work included design-build removal of the 75- foot-wide concrete dam, and preparation of an Erosion and Sediment Control and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) to protect Middle Fork Little Beaver Creek.
Erosion and Sediment Control Plan
In addition to erosion prevention and restoration of the work limits throughout demolition, the Erosion and Sediment Control plan emphasized protection of the surface waters from construction equipment, fuel spills, and oil leak pollution of the waterway. EnviroScience included the use of oil absorbent booms, filter sock, and fencing to limit disturbance and vehicle travel to the project requirements indicated in the Erosion and Sediment Control plan and SWPPP.
During removal, it became necessary to develop predictions of riverbed elevations and sediment transport to ensure that removal of abutments were to a sufficient elevation below river grade. EnviroScience also performed bioengineering along both banks at the dam site. These elements aided in the successful completion of the project.
